SHANGHAI, Aug. 1, 2011 -- JCDecaux announced the introduction of U联 (also called "U Snap" in Europe) in China following the previous launches in France and Germany. The official website of U联 (http://www.u-tie.net ) went into operation today. U联 is an application based on tried-and-tested image recognition technology that members of the public can download freely onto their smartphones. With this highly innovative application, smartphone users can obtain digital content provided by advertisers simply from the photo of a poster taken with their smartphones.

The application for smartphones was developed by global outdoor advertising market leader JCDecaux in October, 2010 and then successfully launched in France and Germany. Since then, more than 400 brands have added an interactive dimension to their advertising campaigns with U联, allowing them to provide the digital content of their brands to consumers from the photo of a poster taken with their smartphones. The application has been downloaded more than 70,000 times. U联 is easy to use and designed to be highly intuitive: smartphone users can download U联 for free from the App-Store and Android Market. When launching the application, the camera function of the smartphone opens automatically and invites the user to "snap" the poster. By means of image recognition technology, the application connects the website where the poster is demonstrated to offer online value-added services for consumers.

Mr. Jean-Charles Decaux, Chairman of the Executive Board of JCDecaux, said: "U联 (also called "U Snap" in Europe) is an innovation that makes a major contribution to the world of Outdoor Advertising, pushing the boundaries of the medium and opening up infinite possible applications of this new technology for the benefit of retail brands, local authorities, consumers and the general public."

Mr. Stephen Wong, CEO for JCDecaux Greater China, said: "I feel honored that China has become the third country where JCDecaux introduces its U联 and I believe U联 will duplicate its success and popularity in China as it has achieved in France and Germany. With this innovative technology, JCDecaux China will provide consumers with more distribution opportunities and more effective media platforms."

Mr. Jean-Marie, Country Operation Director for JCDecaux China, emphasized that the interaction between brand and consumer will be strengthened with U联. U联 is more focused on value-added services and brand experience for audiences than software solutions such as QR code, simply providing online voting, visual experience, music download and other interactive activities. On the other hand, when compared to QD, the setup of U联 will have no impact on a poster image and the creativity of an advertising design.

Now, consumers can download the U联 application for free from the App-Store and Android Market with their iPhone and Android smartphones, and the versions for Nokia's smartphones and Blackberry is under development.
