Suzhou Rail Transit Line 1 was opened for trial operation on April 28, 2012, marking that Suzhou became the first prefecture-level city in China to launch rail transit. 

In the and of December, 2013, Suzhou Rail Transit Line 2 was officially opened and put into trial operation, making Suzhou the first prefecture-level city in China to achieve networking operation.
