As one of the Belt and Road Initiative most important hub and one of the main strategic crossroad on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Terminal 2 opened on April 26, 2018. Its construction area is 658,700 m² and is directly linked to a 222,000 m² transportation hub connecting seamlessly international and domestic airways, urban rail, metro and expressway.
 
In 2019, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Terminal 2 has officially received the global 5-Star Airport Terminal Award by SKYTRAX, one of the most renowned international air transport rating organization. Terminal 2 has been highly rated for its user-friendly terminal facilities, offering a very pleasant environment across the different areas and providing a comfortable and enjoyable customer experience. In 2019, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport exceeded the 70 million of passenger throughput, easily breaking "10 million" level again.
