On September 4, 2012, a display advertisement related to "Celebrating 25 years of friendship between Cologne and Beijing" debuted in Terminal 3 of Beijing's Capital Airport. Beginning in mid-August, over 2,800 advertisments related to the occasion have appeared in JCDecaux managed media throughout Germany. Whether it is in Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Aachen or even Beijing, this is precisely JCDecaux Group, using its own global media resource to publicize and promote activities related to the “China Jahr 2012 Cologne".

2012 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of of diplomatic relations between China and Germany. At the same time, it is also the 25th anniversary of the twinning of the cities of Beijing and Cologne. In this regard, the Cologne government and the Chinese Consulate-General in Frankfurt officially unveiled the start of the "2012 China Year in Cologne" at the jointly held Spring Festival evening gala in mid-January 2012. The China Year theme will thread throughout the year with activities arranged by the city of Cologne. A series of activities such as the "Cologne International Financial Market Forum", "China Business and Investors Forum", "China-Germany Friendship Art Exhibition", and “Flying Dragon, Dancing Phoenix” will debut successively. From September 14 to 16, the “NRW China festival” held by Cologne and the federal state government of North Rhine-Westphalia will be the highlight of these activities.

The partnership between the sister cities of Beijing and Cologne has long covered a number of fields covering urban development, scientific research, culture and the arts, environment and climate. Through its own efforts, JCDecaux aims to build more exchange platforms between the two cities and even the two nations, thus driving greater cooperation.
