On Tuesday, November 23, the ‘Europeanness’ prize was unanimously awarded to JCDecaux in the 6th ‘European Business Meetings’ event convened in the Georges Pompidou centre in Paris.

Aimed at the senior managers of France’s largest companies, these meetings are organized by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, the HEC School of Business Administration, and the La Tribune newspaper with a view to providing senior managers with an opportunity to discuss what Europe means to French companies and to carry out a down-to-earth analysis of the European challenges facing French corporations.

The topic chosen this year was “Europe: the industrial imperative.” The speakers included Christine Lagarde, Minister of Economic Affairs, Industry and Employment in the French government, and Jean-Pierre Jouyet, Chairman of AMF, the French financial markets authority. A roundtable discussion brought together Xavier Fontanet, Chairman of Essilor, Fabrice Bregier, Chief Operating Officer of Airbus, Bernard Charlès, CEO of Dassault Systèmes, Franck Esser, Chairman and CEO of SFR, Clara Gaymard, President and CEO of General Electric France, Patrick Pelata, Assistant General Manager of Renault, and Michel Rollier, Managing General Partner of the Michelin Group.

The awards ceremony ended with the presentation of the prizes awarded by a panel comprised of Xavier Fontanet, Chairman of the selection panel and Chairman of Essilor, Vincent Mercier, Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants Group, Francis Lenglet, Chief Editor at La Tribune, Philippe Mabille, Chief Editor of the “opinion” section of the same newspaper, Bernard Ramanantsoa, Director General of HEC Paris, and Michel Bon.

The aim of these awards is to promote the European business model and to focus attention on winning strategies.

JCDecaux, which was represented at the ceremony by Jean-Charles Decaux, Chairman of the Executive Board and co-CEO, was presented with the ‘Europeanness’ Prize. The criteria for awarding this prize are the proportion of 2009 sales generated in Europe (excluding France), the percentage of employees present in Europe (excluding France), and the number of countries in Europe where the company does business.

During the award ceremony, Jean-Charles Decaux emphasized that JCDecaux is a company that traces its roots in Europe, where its principal innovations are developed before being adopted by the rest of the world. He paid tribute to Jean-Claude Decaux, the company founder and inventor of the street-furniture concept that combines public services with advertising. He dedicated the prize to the men and women who, in the pursuit of their everyday work, are truly responsible for JCDecaux’s success.

4 other prizes were awarded:

- The Grand Prize of European Enterprise: BNP Paribas
- The Growth Award: CGG Veritas
- The Mergers Award - Acquisitions: Sanofi Aventis
- The Special Prize of the Selection Panel: Essilor
