Shanghai Metro Cup - 2008 University Students Public Service Advertise Creativity Design Competition

Most people will be deeply touched by the marvelous conceptions of the designers when looking at the smartly-designed, exquisite advertisements in metro stations. However, the naïve university students may feel a little bit puzzled, as they are still wondering when their own designs can be showcased in front of so many audience. 

Currently, Shanghai Metro Cup 2008 University Students Public Service Advertise Creativity Design Competition, which is sponsored by Shanghai Shentong Metro Group Co., Ltd. in collaboration with Shanghai Shentong JCDecaux Metro Advertising Co., Ltd., provides a free platform for university students in Shanghai to show their talents. Shanghai Shentong JCDecaux Metro Advertising Co., Ltd. has a longstanding commitment to promoting metro culture and public welfare. “Public service ads not only bring the public with creative ideas, but also enhance the public awareness of social responsibility. The ads are always reminding people to pay joint efforts on protecting environment, cherishing life and caring others, to build a harmonious society! As a media operator of metro ads, we wish to not only create commercial value in the metro space where we do business, but also cooperate with our partners to create a harmonious metro space full of creative ideas and culture, making cities more beautiful”, said Mr. Brian, Kam Wai Sum, Executive Chairman at JCDecaux China. 

A press conference for the Competition, entitled “getting ready for Olympic Games, preparing for World Expo, stressing civilization, and promoting harmony”, was held on April 9. Any officially registered students of Shanghai’s colleges and universities can submit advertising works to the organizing committee of the event from April 9 to May 28. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the World Expo 2010 Shanghai are approaching even closer. Under the slogan of “One World, One Dream” and the vision of creating a “peaceful, harmonious and friendly” world, the event is aimed at symbolizing the spirits of the Olympics and the World Expo, as well as advocating the philosophy of building a civilized, harmonious society. 

The panel of judges for the Competition includes famous writers, painters, socialists, as well as advertising designers and government officials, and the organizers will invite some well-known writers to annotate exceptional entries. After more than two months of submissions and evaluation, the award-winning works will be exhibited at the Liu Haisu Art Museum and will be compiled and published. In addition, Shanghai Metro will launch commemorative cards based on the Gold, Silver and Copper prize winners.
